How to use it

  • Set the volume before you open the book and do not touch it again. Adjusting is a small interruption that adds up.
  • For fiction, Calm Study; for anything you are reading to learn, Deep Focus. The second has slightly more presence, which suits effort.
  • Read with the session on headphones in a shared space. The noise bed covers the room better than the music alone.

Does music reduce reading comprehension?

Music with lyrics usually does, and loud or changing music can. Slow, wordless, even music at a low level is the version most readers find neutral or helpful, which is what the sessions are.

Is Calm Study only for students?

No. It was named for the long afternoon it was built for, and it is the session most used for reading of any kind, including novels and reports.

Can I use it with an e-reader and a timer?

Yes. The session is long-form and needs no attention, so pairing it with a reading timer works well. Start both together.
