Artists by genre

Ambient artistswanted for the long hours.

Yes. Ambient is the backbone of Calm Study and Deep Focus, and the genre we approve most. What gets a track in is length and restraint: a piece that holds for ten minutes without a build, mixed flat enough to sit under a whole afternoon of reading. Apply with two or three links and a curator listens end to end.

Where it lands in the sessions

What a curator hears as a fit

Long-form, by design

Eight to twenty minutes is normal here. A track that is over in three minutes forces the sequence to change texture too often.

No arc, no build

The best ambient in rotation does not go anywhere. Room tone, slow pads, a texture that can be joined at any point.

Mixed for quiet playback

Listeners keep sessions low, under fans and keyboards. Detail that only appears at high volume is detail nobody hears.

Why tracks get turned down

  • Drops, swells and cinematic climaxes: a work block is not a film.
  • Sub-bass that fights noise-cancelling headphones or a small speaker.
  • Loops that audibly restart. If a listener can hear the seam, so can the curator.

Before you send

  • Send your longest, calmest piece first, even if it is not your favourite. It is the one most likely to fit.
  • Include one track with a natural noise bed (rain, room, tape) if you have it: Calm Study is built around them.
  • Name the session you think fits in the application. A curator can move it, but it shows you listened.

Common questions

Does Music For Work accept ambient music?

Yes, and more of it than any other genre. Ambient makes up most of Calm Study and a large part of Deep Focus and Late Shift.

How long should an ambient track be?

As long as it holds. Eight to twenty minutes is typical in rotation; there is no upper limit as long as the mix stays even.

Do you take drone or field recordings as ambient?

Yes. Pick the closest genre in the application and describe the texture in your note; the curator decides where it lands.

Do I need a label or a distributor?

No. You keep every right to your music, apply with links, and the way it is used and paid is set out in a written artist agreement before anything is played.

Send your ambient.

Two or three links, a square photo, one line about how you made them. A curator listens end to end and answers within seven days.
