What a curator hears as a fit
A clock that holds
One tempo, or no tempo at all. Sequences that drift in time are fine; sequences that speed up are not.
Warm voices, tamed highs
Filtered oscillators, a little saturation, high frequencies rolled off. Raw square waves at full brightness tire ears in ten minutes.
Why tracks get turned down
- Pitch that wanders. A quantiser off by accident is the most common reason a modular track gets refused.
- Random triggers at full level. A burst from a noise source or a self-oscillating filter is an event, and events are what the sessions avoid.
- Demonstrations. A patch that shows every module in eight minutes is a video, not a work track.
Before you send
- Let the patch run for twenty minutes and send the middle. The settled part is almost always the usable part.
- Put a limiter on the recording and listen back at low volume for anything that jumps. Fix the patch, not the file.
- Tell the curator what is generating the variation. It helps them place the track, and it is the kind of note listeners read on your artist page.

Does Music For Work take modular and generative music?
Yes. Modular pieces are in rotation across Creative Flow, Deep Focus and Late Shift, and long patches are welcome.
Can a track have no tempo at all?
Yes. Free-running patches with no clock fit Deep Focus and Calm Study well, as long as nothing in them spikes.
How long should a modular submission be?
Ten minutes and up is typical. The longest in rotation runs past sixteen, and length is never the reason a track is refused.
Is a live recording fine, or should I edit?
A live recording is fine. Trim the start and the end, remove anything that jumps, and leave the rest alone.
